Karel Havlíček is a Czech composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Prague and Los Angeles. His diverse portfolio spans film, television, commercials, and musicals, making him one of the most sought-after composers in Europe and the US.
His work includes original scores for US films such as Lion Ark and Carpe Noctem, a trailer for HBO’s show The Penguin (Batman saga), and HBO Europe’s original series Terapie and Mamon. He has been nominated for multiple Czech Lions, including for the movie The Brothers (2024) and the TV series Profesor T (2018) and Mamon (2015). Before establishing himself as a freelance composer, songwriter, and producer, he was a member of the band Southpaw.
Beyond film and television, Karel has also explored music’s deeper emotional and physiological effects. He composed Pregnancy Music—a special album created for pregnant women and babies. By recording an orchestra and slowing it down to its most delicate and atmospheric form, he crafted a unique, fragile, and immersive sound experience designed to soothe and connect with unborn children.
After years in Los Angeles, Karel now operates from his awarded Kabelovna Studios in Prague. His debut album, Spoken (2020), is a deeply personal expression of his life experiences, highlighting his mastery of piano and other instruments. In 2024, he released his latest album, It’s Never Late to See the Light, further showcasing his evolution as a composer and his ability to blend classical, electronic, and cinematic elements seamlessly.
Known for his innovative and progressive approach to music, Karel is not only a prolific composer but also a powerful live performer. His concerts are immersive experiences where he takes center stage at the piano, blending classical, electronic, and cinematic elements with dynamic orchestral arrangements. He performs both with a full orchestra and as a solo pianist, creating intimate yet deeply expressive performances. One of his most significant shows took place at O2 Universum, where he played alongside an 80-piece orchestra in front of 3,000 people. In March 2025, he will headline another major show—the official release concert for It’s Never Late to See the Light—bringing his latest work to life with a grand production and a full orchestra. Whether performing solo or with an ensemble, his live shows push creative boundaries, captivating audiences with their intensity and emotional depth.
